Principal's Message

Dewald Coetzer

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome back, MPA families! We hope everyone had a fantastic festive season and is ready for an exciting semester. The Christmas break was a time for joy and relaxation, and now we're gearing up for a semester filled with engaging activities.

Get ready to cheer on our basketball teams as they compete in the upcoming Andrews University tournament. A special shout-out to both the boys' and girls' basketball teams for their outstanding performance at the MLK basketball tournament in Collegedale, Tennessee. This semester is packed with Music Fest, a ski trip, and Academy Days – all promising unforgettable experiences.

Unfortunately, Mother Nature had other plans, and we had to cancel our schoolwide MLK Service Day project due to weather conditions. A new day is in the works, and we're committed to continuing our dedication to community service.

As we dive into major projects and strategic meetings to shape the future of MPA, we ask for your ongoing prayers. Together, let's strive to be the school that fulfills the divine calling upon us. Here's to a semester of growth, achievements, and a shared commitment to excellence.

Thank you,

Dewald Coetzer

Southern Union Prayer Conference Ignites Students' Spiritual Journey

Jenna Schleenbaker, School Counselor

I have heard it said that you cannot depend on emotions. They are fickle, they come and go. Like the weather, like the wind. John 3:8. Rooted. Rooted in Christ. Experience the wind and the waves and be still and KNOW that I AM.

Prayer Conference is an opportunity to grow; as a leader, as a musician, as a friend, as a son and daughter of God, and in your walk with Jesus. Camp Kulaqua is the SDA camp belonging to the Florida Conference in northern central Florida. The facilities there hosted groups of our youth from all over the Southern Union. Schools from all over the Southern Union brought together a select group of leaders from each school to get together to worship and study the word of God.

While we go to SDA schools and churches, there is a need for revivals, for a prayer conference. It is an intentional program built to help you learn about, meet, and experience God.

It’s about the experience. Student leaders got to experience God's hand in the daily meetings and small group activities. The speaker, Pastor Stuard from the South Central Conference, was able to connect with the youth in amazing ways due to his energetic personality and incredible storytelling. This year's Prayer Conference theme was Rooted in Christ. Pastor Stuard spoke about how to gain a firm foundation in God and have deep roots in his words so that when the hard times come, we can hold firm to God and not get blown away.

What is the purpose of Prayer Conference? To create a space and time for intentional personal work on one's prayer life and personal growth and relationship with Jesus. Everyone was put into a small group led by two students. The groups engaged in physical activities to get to know each other and later on had Bible studies together. By the end of the time there, no one wanted to say goodbye and have to leave that atmosphere of joy. Our hope is that each student brings that experience and feeling back to their school with them. Please pray that a fire for God is ignited in all our students and schools.

"For me personally, I felt God's immanence in the room with me. I felt overjoyed, alive and truly one with God. If I could, I would go back and experience it all over again." - Nyjia Bell, '25

The most impactful parts of Prayer Conference for our students were the small groups and praise and worship. The Engage Worship team gave us the opportunity to feel the presence of God in the room with us. Not through the background music and the beautiful harmony, but through the emotions they portrayed through the lyrics. It was truly a blessing.

Varsity Basketball Teams Hoop It Up at the CAYA Tournament

Abby Ackerman, Director of Marketing

Over the weekend, our varsity basketball teams had the chance to engage in the annual CAYA Basketball Tournament held in Collegedale, Tennessee. This event brought together teams from across the Southern Union, fostering competition through a series of games. Not only did our students thoroughly enjoy the experience, but they also honed their skills, embraced sportsmanship, and strengthened team camaraderie. Both teams are now looking forward to the upcoming tournament at Andrew's University later this month.
