Gary Rouse | Friday Night Speaker

Gary Rouse is a 1976 graduate of Mount Pisgah Academy, as well as Southern Missionary College, known today as Southern Adventist University, where he graduated with a Religion Major and a Physical Education and Health minor. He eventually went on to Andrews University where he obtained his Masters Degree in Administration.

His 42 years of work in the Seventh-Day Adventist school system, included a half year as a part time faculty member right here at Mount Pisgah Academy. When he graduated from Southern Missionary College in December of 1981, he changed from being a student teacher at Mount Pisgah Academy, and became the Sophomore Bible teacher, as well as an assist chaplain and assist gymnastic coach.

Over his career, he has taught Bible, Math, Health, and Physical Education. He has also been a gymnastics coach, basketball coach, School Chaplin, Boys Dean and Vice Principal. Before his retirement, he finished his career as a Superintendent of Education for 23 years, first in the Iowa - Missouri Conference and then here in the Carolina Conference.
Rouse grew up in the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, where both of his parents were teachers, and his father was also an ordained minister, and previously served as Youth Director in the Carolina Conference.

His passion for the youth of the church, caused his work of teaching his students not only the subjects material, but also to help them learn to build their own relationship with Jesus Christ.
Rouse’s rich background as a secondary school teacher, and also a Superintendent, has given him endless possibilities for helping the young people in our schools to feel a part of the Adventist Church. In his own classroom, as well as his mentoring of other teachers in their classrooms, as educators and Spiritual leaders for their students.

Besides his devotion to education, Rouse enjoys hobbies in woodworking, leather craft and almost any sport. His love for the outdoors launches him into pastimes like hiking, biking and riding horses, scuba diving and many other water activities. But his greatest love is explain the Bible to those who are seekers of truth, helping them find a closer walk with their Lord and Savior.
He and his wife Jayme, also a former teacher and conference office worker, have been married for 40 years. They have two married daughters, Kayla and Jill, as well as three grandchildren.
