THE GOD WHO WATCHES OVER ME

Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father's care." Matthew 10:29

“Mom, she has been in my room! She has gotten into my chocolate!”

I will never forget the panic that rushed through me when I saw dark streaks and red food coloring all over my dog’s face. When I went into my room, I saw that the medium sized M&M’s bag that had formerly been sitting full on my table was now on the floor, empty. Somehow, my dog, Kaylee, managed to get to it and she had eaten the whole thing. My parents did the necessary research and decided that we had to take her to the vet as soon as possible.

Kaylee was taken to an emergency animal hospital not far from where we live. When my mom left with her that afternoon, I knew it could be the last time I would see my puppy. I hated thinking that because I had been careless and left the chocolate out where she could get to it, she could die. I cannot remember how many times I prayed that night. I do not think I have wanted anything more than for God to heal Kaylee and not let me live with the guilt of accidentally killing her. For two days Kaylee was in the hospital, and I must admit there were times when I thought we were going to lose her, but somehow, I knew that she was going to be okay. God gave me the peace and the faith to believe that she would live. That next day, she did come home, and to make things better, she has had no neurological issues and no side effects from her little adventure.

I may have made a mistake and it put my dog’s life in danger, but God came through for me, showing that He not only cares for humanity but for all His creation. There is a verse in the gospel of Matthew that says, not a single sparrow can fall to the ground without God taking notice. If He constantly watches over an insignificant little bird, I know He was watching over my dog, and better yet, He is watching over me as well.
